Aeronautical Data Management in a GIS Environment

GFeaMan allows geographical and interactive definition of aeronautical features using powerful functionalities based on an embedded Geomedia(R) GIS (Geographic Information System) environment to facilitate aeronautical data maintenance.

GFeaMan is a module of the IDS AeroDB Suite (IAS) and facilitates the data maintenance of the IDS Aeronautical Database (AERODB) with specialized maintenance and presentation functionalities in a powerful GIS interface. It is capable of updating and querying the AERODB, displaying the result in the Geomedia GIS environment.

 

Data Maintenance with a Visual, Spatial Interface

GFeaMan makes it easy to define and update aeronautical features data through its powerful GIS capabilities and performance in automatic attribute computation.

Maintenance sessions are performed by specifying the desire effective date and loading all necessary data from the AERODB. Aeronautical features are presented over the actual geographic area of interest.  Data handling is simplified further by GFeaMan’s automatic fill tools and interactive override of bearing/distance/variation attributes.

Spatial / Relational / Sequential Verification of Data

GFeaMan allows the verification of inserted data by

• Comparison of attributes value based on previous records

Query and Import Functionality

GFeaMan allows multiple features to be loaded into the workspace and presented on the GIS window by applying spatial and other filters with simple clicks on the selection buttons. The import functionality allows importing data in DGN format to be used as a reference background (e.g. a satellite image or geo-referenced map).

GFEaMan ensures data integrity with a CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) conducted during each insertion/extraction of data with the AERODB.

Data Temporality is managed by GFeaMan as well as the ability to track the database changes that occur during a work session, generating warnings for the user when appropriate.

GFeaMan makes use of an open architecture database, allowing simple exchange of data with foreign databases and easy customization of data attributes when required by the user.

Typical Workflow for Inserting a New Route

Query AERODB for fix data (waypoints, navaids etc).

1. Draw route segments with GFeaMan’s GIS interface.
2. For each inserted segment, the system automatically calculates the radial (true and magnetic track), inverse radial (true and magnetic) and the geodetic length of the segment.
3. For each inserted segment the system prompts the user for vertical limits, minimum flight level, lateral buffer width and an activation period.
4. When the validation button is pressed, the system checks that construction data have not been changed during the current session (e.g. a reference point changing position) and GFeaMan alerts the user, prohibits the save and validation action if necessary.
5. A CRC validation is then performed to manage the data flow integrity to/from the AERODB or other applications.

Additional Services

IDS provides all the necessary training and software maintenance. Through IDS maintenance the customer has the guarantee that the product will be kept aligned with the evolution of the applicable standards (ICAO, AIXM etc)
