Multilateration systems are designed to detect the position of an aircraft on the airport surface by means of the measure of the different time of arrivals of SSR replies between couples of sensors installed within the airport area.

The MLAT module of EMACS is capable of computing the following set of parameters:

• Area of radio coverage of each sensor
• Number of sensors in view from each point
• Dilution of Precision and its horizontal and vertical components
• estimatation of the aircraft position by means of a multilateration algorithm taking into account:
  
  • Masking and multi-path effects
  • Thermal noise and interfering signals
  • Tx and Rx antenna patterns
  • Rx synchronisation noise
